Rules of the badminton

Rules common to simple and the double

Tossing
With the badminton, any match begin with the "toss". This one can be carried out various manners, but more current consists, for the referee, to pose the shuttle on the net in balance, then to drop it. Once on the ground, the stopper appoints the player or the team who will be able in first to carry out a choice.
This last goes on one or the other of the two following parameters: service, either to choose to serve or to receive, or the ground, choose to remain on its half-ground or to change half-ground.
Once the decision of the first player announced, his adversary can make choose the remaining parameter.

The match
In women and man simple play as in double, a match is gained in two gaining sets.
For the 5 disciplines (Men simple play, Women simple play, Men double play, Women double play and Mixed double), a set is won by the first team which reach in first 21 points, knowing that the team which gains the exchange marks the point.
In the event of equality with 20/20, the set is prolonged and it is the team who leads by 2 points which gains the set.If the score reaches 29/29, the set is gained by the team which marks the 30th point.
After the first set, the players change half-ground. When it required there to dispute a third set, they have to change at 11 points.
The team or the player with the service in the second and if necessary in the third set is the one which gained the preceding set.

The team which gains the exchange marks the point, which it is with the service or not.

An exchange is considered lost when a player makes a fault. Those can be several orders :

Surface play
In a man or women simple, the game proceeds on a ground excluding the side corridors :

Zone of service
The server serve in diagonal in a square delimited by the service line and the bottom of the court.

Placement with the service
To know in which zone to place itself at the service or in return of service, it is necessary to refer to the score of the player to the service: when the score is an even number, the server and the receiver place themselves in the zone of service on the right of their ground. Conversely, when the score is odd, they are placed in the zone of left.

Change of service
From the moment when the server loses the exchange, the service passes to its adversary.

In a men, women or mixed double, the game is held on the totality of the ground :
